Founded in 1888, Belk is a privately owned company that operates more than 280 fashion department stores throughout 16 southeastern United States. Its products include formal china, casual china, drinkware, flatware, bath towels and bridal party attire. William Henry Belk started his first store, the New York Racket, in 1888 in Monroe, N.C. The company now has stores that sell moderately priced designer and private brand fashions, cosmetics and accessories. Belk is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.
